Submission videos are now being accepted for the second annual Tulsa Sings!, a vocal competition embedded with the Signature Symphony at Tulsa Community College 2018-2019 season.

“We created Tulsa Sings! to discover and showcase the wonderful talent in our community,” said Andrés Franco, Signature Symphony at TCC music director. “There is no age restriction to enter the competition. Last year, we had individuals ranging from 10 to 65 years old enter and we were so impressed with level of talent from the submissions.”

Entering the competition is easy, just submit a three minute video and complete a short application. The Tulsa Sings! 2017-2018 grand prize winner Allison Walden entered the competition with a video she recorded herself on a cellphone singing acapella in her car. As part of the Tulsa Sings! prize package, the 37-year-old Broken Arrow mother of two will perform this year with the Signature Symphony.

The deadline to enter the 2018-2019 Tulsa Sings! competition is 5 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018. Competition rules and information on how to submit a video as well as the timeline are at www.signaturesymphony.org. KOTV News on 6 is the Tulsa Sings! media sponsor again this year.

Tulsa Sings! finalists will be announced on Tuesday, January 22, 2019. Then on April 5 and 6, 2019, three to six finalists will perform with Broadway’s Scott Coulter and other top New York vocalists at the TTCU Pops concert featuring music collaborations by composer Leonard Bernstein and choreographer Jerome Robbins. At each performance, there will be an audience choice award given and the Tulsa Sings! grand prize winner will be announced at the end of Saturday’s performance. The Tulsa Sings! grand prize winner will be selected by a panel of judges and could have the opportunity to be featured in a Signature Symphony concert during the 2019-2020 season.

“This competition is structured so that the finalists perform on the TCC VanTrease Performing Arts Center for Education stage with Signature Symphony’s professional musicians and work with and learn from experienced vocalists,” said Franco.

Contestants selected for callbacks will be notified by Wednesday, November 14 and in person callbacks with Scott Coulter will be held Saturday, December 15. Contestants selected for callbacks must participate to move on to the final competition in April.

Tulsa Sings! is part of the 2018-2019 “A Season of Favorites,” Signature Symphony at TCC’s 40th anniversary season. The year-long celebration promises to highlight audience favorites and to feature returning guest artists from four decades of history of Signature Symphony, previously known as Tulsa Little Symphony and Sinfonia.

Since its formation in 1979, the Signature Symphony at TCC has been committed to providing rich musical experiences through live performances, as well as music education and community outreach. Before every Classics concert, our Open Rehearsals allow music lovers of all ages to experience professional orchestra rehearsals and enjoy educational interactions with our conductor, musicians and guest artists. The Open Rehearsals are free and begin at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 20, 2018; Nov. 1, 2018; Jan. 24, 2019; March 14, 2019; April 18, 2019.

Tickets for 2018-2019 are on sale now for the Signature Classics and TTCU Pops series. A season subscription offers a substantial savings over purchasing individual tickets.
